So, I keep meaning to sit down here and update this blog!! We have been having such a great March so far, and have so many exciting things coming up!!! Saturday is BabyGirl's 6th B-day. I can't even believe that my precious little baby is turning 6. Where does the time go? I'm so amazed every day as I look at her. She is turning out to be the most well-rounded amazing kid ever. She never ceases to surprise us, make us laugh and keep us on our toes. Her imagination takes me away, and I'm so incredibly proud that I can call myself her mommy. What a gift. Last week as she was washing her hands she said "In the world of soaps you're born big. Then, as you live you become smaller and smaller until, finally, one day you're teeny tiny." I will never forget when she was 4 she asked me "What if everything in our life is just one big dream?" If I do my job correctly her mind will always be so fascinating....without limitations...
Next week I will be the proud new Auntie to my first-ever niece! I'm so excited for everyone in the family, especially mommy who has been dreaming for so long of little pink booties! My heart is full of love, joy and anticipation. Yay! Also, next week, on Friday we will be attending the Sesame Street Live Elmo Goes Green! Nanny gets to go with us this year, and we are so thankful she can attend!!!! We will be seeing it at the BOK Center, and can't wait to see the inside!
Our Grandma & Pappap the Great came to stay with us for a few days. We love having them come, but hate the silence we hear when they leave. We made many new memories this trip including the zoo, fishing, and playing games. Grandma had a wonderful make-over, we had some great food, and took a fast-paced race car ride :) We miss them soooo much!
Spring break was a great week. That weather was awesome, and I'm longing for it now! Our neighbors' daughter came to visit with her 2 therapy dogs. BabyGirl LOVES visiting with them, and helping Jenna Rose and Joshua do tricks. They are the sweetest dogs, and their owner is a wonderful woman to be around. We (and her mother) wish she didn't live so far away. She always makes a lasting impression on us, and her grand-daughter should get to see her whenever she wants!
Our school has been going great! We've done some really fun things for geography this month. We're studying Australia. We went to the zoo to find all the Aussie animals. We found some very lazy kangaroos, a lizard, an emu and a few others. We've watched some cool DVD's we got at the library on families from Australia. BabyGirl loved them so much! And, they were just the right length to not be overwhelming...about 15-20 mins. We studied the Aboriginal peoples, and really enjoyed making some rock paintings. We used only feathers, grass, rocks and other things we could collect from nature to paint with. This was by far our favorite thing about Australia. Oh, and BabyGirl swears that if she had a real didgeridoo she could play it! :)
In science, we've wrapped up our unit on the way things move. We've started BabyGirl's most favorite science subject of all time (ranking right with weather)--the human body!! She just cannot get enough of this! So, every day lately we've been covering something else. Today we measured our heart rate before and after exercise. She wanted to keep doing it again and again. We will be working with the human body the rest of this school year, and are looking forward to lots more fun. We're still using our Magic School Bus science kit along with it. LOVE IT!
Today we played mexican train with our neighbors, and had a blast! (alert alert!) We plan on making this an ongoing event, not only because it's fun, but also because it's math. What could be better than that?!
We've started our phonics/spelling for 1st grade already. I was planning on starting these in Sept, but BabyGirl talked me into it. She absolutely loves it!! We use her favorite puppet (Animal from the Muppets--bang drum!) to help us with our lessons everyday. It's so funny to me that whenever I question what we're doing (too much, not enough) if I just let go and let BabyGirl do the leading, I never go wrong. I was contemplating what to do since we've completely finished our K math/phonics/spelling. Then, being the structure-seeking girl she is, BabyGirl prompted to go ahead and start what we were saving. And, she totally digs it. For us, child-led learning is the way to go. (which is also why Bach and Picasso will be saved for a later date:) She greets each day with "Mommy! I want to do school!" Music to my ears....
So, that's about it. It's been so long since our last update that I couldn't possibly include everything exciting....but you get the idea.... until next time :)
